SOMALILAND: SONYO Calls for National Conference on Youth Migration

Hargeisa, (Somaliland Monitor) -After last week’s tragic death of more than 300 Somalilander youth in the Mediterranean Sea during their perilous journey to Europe, Somaliland National Youth Umbrella (SONYO) called for national conference on youth migration which will bring together government, members of the two houses of parliament and political parties.

According to a press statement released by SONYO on Wednesday and signed by SONYO Deputy Chairman Mr. Abdikani Mohamoud Jiidhe, the conference will serve a new platform that SONYO and the participants of the conference will share ways of tackling the disheartening phenomena of youth migration which claimed the lives of thousands of the country’s future generation.

“SONYO stands to improve the quality of life of Somaliland youths calls for the participation of national conference on youth illegal migration, therefore SONYO calls government, parliament and political parties to come together and discuss ways of tackling the menacing problem of youth migration” the press statement said.

SONYO also reassured it’s commitment towards tackling youth problems where SONYO will play a vital role towards ways of tackling illegal youth migration which caused the brain drain of the country’s talented youths.

During the conference SONYO will share with the participants of the conference an in-depth studies about youth illegal migration, according to the press statement.

Finally, SONYO sends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families of the youths who lost their precious life in the last week’s shipwreck incident in the Mediterranean Sea.
